Re3™ Building Wire Reliability Index Calculator

Re3™ Building Wire Reliability Index Calculator

Upgrade or upsize cables for critical infrastructure applications such as Data Centers, Healthcare Facilities, Wastewater Treatment Plants, Ports & Airports, or any heavily loaded systems.

THHN, XHHW, USE Cable Uses Described Below:

THHN: Southwire SIMpull® THHN/THWN-2 copper conductors are primarily used in conduit and cable trays for services, feeders, and branch circuits in commercial or industrial applications as specified in the National Electrical Code® and other applicable codes and standards. La tension nominale pour toutes les installations est de 600 volts.

XHHW: Southwire XHHW-2 copper conductors are primarily used in conduit and cable trays for services, feeders, and branch circuits in commercial or industrial applications as specified in the National Electrical Code® and other applicable codes and standards. Voltage rating for XHHW-2 conductors is 600 volts or 1000 volts. Suitable for use in Health Care Facilities, Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTP),  Data Centers, Electric Vehicle (EV) Infrastructure, and Semiconductor Manufacturing. This is the most sustainable building wire solution for any construction seeking a LEED certification.

USE-2:  Frequently installed for below-grade or direct burial applications as the crosslinked XLPE insulation with a heavy wall design allows the cable to withstand high impact and crushing force per UL qualification testing. These cables are often specified for Wastewater Treatment Plants,  Data Centers, Electric Vehicle Infrastructure, and DOT Infrastructure.

DISCLAIMER

  1. Re3 Building Wire Reliability Index Calculator Patent Pending No. 60309.0392USP1
  2. The industry’s best practices on installation, operation, and maintenance should always be followed regardless of the cable type or size selected. A higher reliability index can improve the long-term reliability of the cable compared to the baseline cable if the best practices are executed.
  3. Insulation thicknesses of different cable types are based on the respective UL requirements for the cable spec referenced. Southwire UL E-file numbers: E23919 (THHN), E30117 (XHHW-2), E32071 (USE-2).
  4. Ampacities used in this calculator are based on 2023 NEC Table 310,16.
  5. Larger ODs, for more reliable cable options, might create conduit fill or cable tray fill issues (exceeding NEC maximum). Consider raceway designs before making the final decision.
  6. When evaluating upgrading to USE-2, note that this is generally stocked in black color only, please contact your sales rep for lead times/MOQ for colors.
